A good portrait is a window to self-discovery -- It celebrates a special occasion or commemorates a life.
Although I do figurative art from live models and have painted pastel portraits from both live sittings and photographs, at present I only accept portrait commissions from good photos. Please note that this allows low prices and quick deadlines, whereas live sittings run into 1000s of dollars and considerable time.

You can commission different types of portraiture:
Traditional – Lifelike paintings in the representational style. Note: Children look especially adorable with toys or pets.
Institutional - Formal portraits of important people in your company, school, or community - generally painted as life size head only or 1/2, 3/4 or full figure, standing or sitting. Free historical research.
Contemporary – Likeness rendered in the style of pop art, comics, or other.
Historical and fantasy – Portraits with appropriate costumes, props, even pets. You
can belong to the time of your ancestors or to any era, place, or role you choose, from samurai to Marie Antoinette. Or choose outright fantasy or the future. Historical research at no added cost.

PHOTO REFERENCE - Send me 1 or more good and clear color photographs to be used for the portrait, marking clearly your favorite. A professional studio photo can be used but only as a guide to subject's coloring and features as it is under copyright. The rest of the composition must be customized. If an old black-and-white photo is used, send also any color image (a different photo or even magazine ad) to show me the person's coloring. NOTE: several photos can be combined into a group portrait, but the quality of each photo must be good.
After I receive the photos , we will discuss the concept, layout, color scheme, size, and any special requests (tattoos, braces, or other points). Added still life, pets, complex backgrounds, etc. need extra reference photos.
